Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in 1979, with a Birth Defect called Spina Bifida. I also have a condition called Hydrocephalus. I am paralyzed and mostly confined to a wheelchair. I have had close to 70 surgeries in my life and will have to have more, before my time on earth is over. I wasn't expected to live through the first week of my life. However, by the grace of God, I've made it through a lot of stuff! I am thankful to God every single day I get to wake up.
However, with those health conditions, comes a great many obstacles. I have to fight daily just to get through my day to day life. I am not able to get myself out of bed some days. I have a hard time doing a lot of things for myself, be it because of physical limitations, inaccessibility or for whatever reason. I have to depend on others to drive me where I need to go, plus a lot of activities of daily living.
One thing I have encountered as of late, is the fact that, because of "new laws & regulations", a lot of my medications are being changed without my consent and I'm just being put on whatever THE DOCTOR feels will work for me! I am sick and darn tired of the powers that be, in My State and in our Federal Government, thinking they are God and that they know me or others like me, better than we know ourselves, so therefore, they know better than I do, what medication or what treatment or what length of physical therapy will work for me and others like me! If you've never met me, talked to me and seen what I go through, just to fight for my life, to get through each and every day of my life, DO NOT judge me, try to make my decisions for me & dang it, QUIT trying to tell me what is better for me, such as medications, treatments, therapies, etc. Walk a month in my shoes and see what I go through and what I have to deal with and what I have to fight for and then, we'll talk. Until then, Just leave me and my health alone!
I had someone the other day tell me, "you're just pissed that the doctor took you off that medication, because you're an addict!" That couldn't be further from the truth! I, at that moment, wish I could have strangled that person! I lost a family member because of an addiction and by golly, I swore to myself that I would NEVER become addicted to ANYTHING that would take my life, the way my family members life was taken, due to their addiction!
I will always fight for myself and for what I believe and if that means I make some enemies, Oh Well, so be it!
